Are you sick of seeing strange links that look like they might not be safe to click? If you don’t click, you’re afraid you might miss some important information, but at the same time, you might be falling into a trap?

Dear readers, your dilemma ends here! We are thrilled to announce that Whoscall’s URL Scanner is finally here! Read on to learn more about this powerful new feature and how to use it.

What does the URL Scanner do?

In order to combat the spread of fraudulent websites, Whoscall’s URL Scanner works with Gogolook, the Criminal Investigation Bureau database, Google’s Web Risk service, and URL risk detection service provider Scamadviser’s global database. With their forces combined, the URL Scanner is able to analyze website traffic, creation dates, SSL certificate status, malware installation, and other indicators to build a three-fold protection net that ensures people’s digital information stays secure.

URL Scanner helps users ensure a link’s safety quickly and conveniently, protecting users from clicking on phishing links by mistake. With just one click, it’s never been easier to determine a website’s safety.

When to use URL Scanner

You might be asking, when can I use the URL Scanner? The following is a short list of situations that would be perfect for trying out this new function.
  • Email confirmation notices
Whether it be a restaurant or hotel reservation notification, or even a more serious account abnormality notification, as long as you have doubts about a link’s authenticity, you can send it to Whoscall for inspection!
  • Groups circulating unknown links
Everyone comes across links in their daily lives. But there’s always that feeling that clicking on some of them might be risky. Go ahead and let URL Scanner do its thing so you and your personal information can stay safe.
  • Links in text messages from unknown senders
Scammers often send text messages using government, bank, or merchant names to trick their victims into filling in their personal information and accounts. For this reason, we should always be vigilant when we receive this kind of text. Let the URL Scanner inspect the attached link and click it only once it has been confirmed as safe, greatly reducing your risk of falling prey to a phishing scam.
  • Finding an unknown page through a search engine
One of the advantages of living in the information age is that you can find websites and other information on the Internet at any time. However, there are also plenty of phishing websites pretending to be official sites. If you are worried about entering a scam website by mistake, you can also submit these links to Whoscall first to avoid leaking your personal information or downloading malicious software!

How do I use the URL Scanner?

After all that information, let’s show you how to actually use the feature itself!

Step 1: Go to the URL Scanner page

How do I get to that page?
  • For iOS users, on the “Protection” page, click the “URL Scanner” button on the upper left to enter the feature’s page.
  • For Android users, click the menu on the upper left of the home page, then click the “URL Scanner” button to enter the feature’s page.

Step 2: Enter in or paste the URL you want to check then click “Scan URL”

Confirm that the URL has been entered correctly so we can check if it’s safe!

Step 3: Different inspection and classification results are displayed to help you judge the link’s safety

Introduction to inspection results

When you enter the URL you want to check, Whoscall will give you a risk result. The results include safe links, suspicious links, and dangerous links, etc., helping users understand the risk involved in clicking on a link so they can decide whether or not to visit that page.

Let’s take a look at the different safety classification results:
  • Green: Indicates a safe link
  • Yellow: Indicates a suspicious link
  • Red: Indicates a dangerous link

When an inspection result is gray, that means it is an unknown link that may have been created too recently or has had too little traffic, so there is no relevant information currently. Before clicking on it, we recommend checking with the official site first.

The above inspection results are presented to the user by Gogolook with the help of comprehensive evaluation from Google and ScamAdviser databases. We recommend that you use the URL Scanner function to understand a webpage’s risk level before clicking on an unknown link!
